Anger

This book helps children manage their anger, learning when it is good to display it and when it can be overly destructive.

 

 

Anxiety 

Information on what anxiety is, the symptoms, criteria for panic attacks, how to help anxious children. Mention is made of children with autism spectrum disorders as they are prone to high levels of anxiety. However, children with ASD need to be handled differently to children without ASD.

 

 

 

Autism 

Helping children gain social skills. Particular attention is given to displaying and interpreting body language which are well known deficits in children with ASD.

 

 

 

Bullying

These are especially good for shy and timid children, helping them with social situations.

 

 

 

School phobia/refusal 

The book includes reasons for school refusal, anxiety, panic attacks, separation anxiety, agoraphobia, social phobia, bullying, how teachers and parents can help (many practical strategies). Advice on how to help severely affected children, including mention of cognitive behavioural techniques.

 

 

 

Social skills (children) 

Helping children with autism spectrum disorders and other special educational needs gain essential social skills and an understanding of the rules of different social settings and the roles different people play at different times. Detailed help with teaching children to interpret body language of others and to display appropriate body language. Help with expressing feelings and in managing anger and in developing friendships and understanding the rules of friendship. Safety in social situations in the real and virtual world. Assertiveness skills and listening and caring skills. Also help with raising children's self-esteem. Many exercises and role plays that can be adapted to suit individual needs are suggested.

 

 

 

Social skills (young adults) 

This is a complete course in social skills for young people with mild learning difficulties. Friendships, social networks, loneliness, how personality affects conversations and the ability to make friends, assertiveness, body language and counselling are looked at. There are plenty of discussion questions and role plays.

 

 

 

Assertiveness (Children)

This book includes assertiveness exercises and helps children move away from either passive or aggressive behaviour.

 

 

 

Assertiveness (young adults) 

This is a complete course in assertiveness training for young people. Assertiveness is also considered in the social skills books for children and young adults.
